Special Effects Make-Up
July 31, 2008 – 11:23 amHave you ever wondered how special effects make-up artists transform someone in their 20s into someone much older? It’s a very interesting, not to mention tedious, process that can sometimes take weeks.
It’s a lot more than just make up… its bald caps and plaster spirit gum and sculpting tools and gelatin and implants and contacts and… the list goes on and on.
Once the actual mask is completed, it can take hours to perform the transformation. It’s not something that takes place within a few minutes. Most of the time, depending on the movie, the actor who is undergoing the change, must do so on a daily basis. Do you think you could be that patient?
It’s not cheap, to grow old. On average a total transformation, like the one in this video can cost upwards of $10,000.
